Painting Music with Donna Hawkins

Explore how music influences your emotions, and learn how you can express this emotion as art. We will do a number of exercises and then we’ll focus on creating a finished artwork, in mixed media, that will perfectly describe a piece of music.

All materials are provided but please bring along a few magazines you can cut up for a collage element… something that has lots of coloured images is best.

Friday Women Weaving Stories

The presenter at the Women Weaving Stories on Friday 25th April is Janine Quine, the Community Engagement Facilitator and Educator at Australian Catholic University and a member of Womenspace Management Committee, with an extraordinary story to share:

“In 1996 at the age of 35 and as a single mother of 4 children, I decided that if I was going to improve the life outcomes of my children and have  the financial security I needed to go to uni and  become a teacher.   What was initially meant as a long-term economic plan, became a lifelong transformative experience that did not bring me life-long economic stability.  Instead, my decision took me on an unplanned and unimagined path that not only enriched my life beyond measure but totally changed how I saw the world and my place in it.”

Join us at Womenspace, 11 Second Avenue, Sandgate,

Friday 25th April at 6pm for 6.30start

$5 cash donation on entry + raffle tickets available

Thursday Womenspace Writers Group

We gather together and write in a series of 10 minute spontaneous writing exercises.

Come and join us.  Here is a piece written by Wendy McHugh on "Why I Write."

Why do I write?

I write for the fun of it. I write because I like words and the ways in which I can string them together.

I write to record my past; to remind myself of long-lost memories.

I write to celebrate my life, my experiences and my understandings.

I write because it is easy to for me to paint pictures; to make a memory of people, places and times.

I write and it soothes my soul. Writing re-inforces my existence and gives value to my experience. It enhances my sense of self and encourages me to be understood and forgiving myself and others.

My writing is a celebration, a joy, a gift.
