Friday Women Weaving Stories
Our presenter is Karen Allen with the facilitator Janine Quine.
Karen and her mother migrated from England to Australia when she was 11 years old.
For decades, Karen’s commitment to social and environmental justice has seen her involvement
in various movements that focused on peace, anti-nuclear and now, Karen is a climate change
activist. At 80, she has slowed down a little but continues to be involved by raising awareness.
Here is Karen’s invitation to us all:
“What do Joan, Jo, Margaret, Betsy + Peg, and Georgia have in common?
Please come along and listen to my stories and find out.
Looking back on my long life I had quite a few jobs before going to Uni as a mature age student and
graduating with a BA in Library Science.
My library career actually began in the historic Sandgate Town Hall, just a short walk away from
where we are to meet.
A clue about Margaret, she changed my life but never knew that she had done so.
Maybe you could guess who she was?”
We are looking forward to welcome Karen to Womenspace and trust many will be attending - arrival at
6pm for 6.30start, light refreshments.
$5 donation and raffle and door prize at the entry.

Monday Chat with Purpose
The idea began with: “I listen to many interesting podcasts and don’t have a chance to discuss it with someone in person”.
Well – here is an opportunity – what did you listen to, what interesting (positive) news you received, books, films, or exhibitions you saw and didn’t have a chance to talk about it? We do that, we discuss the new findings and finish the evening with a chat over a bowl of soup. Join us – just turn up!

Friday Women Weaving Stories
Our topic this month is GRIEF
It won’t be a sad session, rather a session about love and how we relate to ourselves and others through life’s tough moments.
We thought we would make Geraldine Brooks our presenter. You have probably seen her exploring her own grief on an episode of Compass, but you probably did not have companions right there with you to discuss it.
So, let’s watch it together and draw from it the particular aspects each of us would like to explore. We all do grief differently, of course, there is no one right way, no universal stages and no set timelines. For some of us we hold dear the ways of grieving of our family and culture, and for some of us we need to imagine new ways.
This is a different approach to Women Weaving Stories, but one we hope you enjoy.
Inspiring evening to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. Exchange ideas, get a raffle ticket, share a nibble, a cuppa or cool drink.
$5 on entry, RSVP by SMS to 0434 357 862
