Our presenter at Women Weaving Stories on Friday 19th September is Judy Wakabayashi who recently published a book about Fitzgibbon's history titled Butterflies and Bandicoots: “On Becoming Fitzgibbon”
Judy’s path to Fitzgibbon meandered from Toowoomba to Canberra, then to Japan for over a decade, followed by time in Brisbane, an interlude in the Netherlands, and a long sojourn in the United States. Professionally, she worked in the field of Japanese translation, teaching postgraduate students in two countries and translating several books and numerous other works over the years. Happenstance led to researching the history of translation in Japan and other Asian traditions of translation. This long detour on the way to Fitzgibbon helped equip Judy to research and write a local history of her new home.
So many stories to weave and share - reflections on place, turning points, culture, identity and purpose.
